New Computer and GIMP

As I expected, my desktop did kick the bucket. But unfortunately, I didn't really have opportunity to borrow the other laptop. So, now that I'm officially back (with 1000+ items waiting in my inbox, XD), I'm aiming to complete some of the trades and whatnot that I still owe, and since I bought this computer with my own money, I'm full admin. So I downloaded GIMP to see if that might - overall - make my digital attempts a bit better, XD ... After I learn how to use it.

I have some technical questions on the program, though one of which is why GIMP locks up so often when I load it.

The main other two should be fairly basic, but I've never used the program before. One is, when I've seen a friend use the program via screen shares, is that the old lineart has been turned blue. Is that just a click and color trick? It doesn't look like just a color over of pencil lines, though, so I'm a tad confused on that.

The other question is what the button looks like, for the bendable line tool. It seems that the lines on GIMP are a lot less pixelated than on MS Paint when you do it that way, as you can adjust it several times, but I can't find the option on GIMP 2.

Any help at all would be much appreciated. ^^

Expanded Universe~
For the expanded universe alone, I have many stories in mind already. And most particularly, I am looking forward to submitting "The Visitor" - a legendary rogue, a judge and executioner ... whom is judged herself.

Going over every single idea I have for the EU would take ages, but I will also mention that I plan on chronologizing all of the Pridelands as well as other territories. Perhaps not every generation on said foreign territories, but they will hardly be ignored.
